Chandler Price Pillot Printing Help

Hi All,

I’ve searched through the discussions in hopes that I wasn’t asking a question that wasn’t already answered a lot but I can’t seem to find anything so here it goes:

We have a restored Chandler & Price Pilot that we are attempting to print on for the first time. I’ve had to tape the rails with several (15+) layers of eletrical tape just to keep the rollers in an acceptable height and not paint the Boxcar Base.

We also have adjusted the platen to its full max height and have had to use 2 sheets of corrugated plastic as backing just to get an imprint (not a deep impression) on the Crane Lettra paper.

We’re running into issues with the rollers not rolling on certain parts of the tape and leaving “scuff” looking marks on the base (and then the print), as well as a lack of any sort of imprint no matter how much packing we add.

Are we using the wrong kinds of packing? What else are we doing wrong? The invitations are coming out awful and after two evenings of tinkering me and my husband are putting up the white flag to the Briar Press Community…..

Pictures of the press, rollers, roller trucks, etc. will help a lot diagnosing what’s going on. Sounds to me like something on the press is incorrectly assembled. Corrugated plastic is the wrong kind of packing.
