Name this pinmark contest

I miss the pinmark libary!

I just sent in a contribution, but could not specify that I wanted it to go to the rebuilding of the pinmark library. I suggest that maybe there should be a way to donate towards that- maybe sponsor a pinmark…then you’d get a jpeg of the pinmark that you sponsored. Maybe the pinmark going to school for the first time or sumtin.

But I digress.

Any ideas on this ? An M in a circle.

I miss it too, but it is still in the works and may be closer than past updates indicate. For more information, see http://www.briarpress.org/15798 .

I think your pinmark is from the John G. Mengel & Co. of Baltimore, Maryland, Annenberg, pg 198 if you have the book.

Your contribution is greatly appreciated. In a sense, it is going to the Pinmark Museum because designing a site wide code that can be modified for use in every section is what we are trying to do. I do believe that the past version of the Pinmark Museum did credit the person who submitted the mark and the database was searchable under the contributor’s name. Certainly this will be part of the upgrade.

Thanks Elizabeth,

Keep up the good work!

i think that mark was used by miller brewing and actually depicts the “M” for Miller filling a can of beer, the triangle being the Greek sign of Delta meaning “Change”. it was used by our local brewing company for some years back when the packer’s stunk, and we needed a “change”… just my guess……

Christopher,

That pin mark was used by the Manhattan Type Foundry, in New York City, from ca.1886 to 1890. As mentioned, previously, information on that company can be read in Annenberg’s book, Type Foundries of America and their Catalogs (1974). I have several type fonts & borders that were cast there, with that pinmark.
