paper dampening

I am printing one side of a two sided business card on cotton paper (the other side is first being offset printed with a flood of color). The side I am printing is something I would normally want to dampen before printing. I am wondering if people think it would ok to dampen the paper before printing the letterpress side after the offset side had been printed? We’ve never done this before and were just concerned that maybe the offset printing (which would be pretty fresh) might not respond well to being dampened and might offset onto the letterpress intended side. any thoughts?

You should be fine. The inks used in offset are not water soluable, and you should see no problems. It is not unusual to print one side and dampen again to print the reverse. You just don’t want to try to register an image on the same side to something which was printed when the paper was dry. The paper fibers do expand a bit when dampened.
