I have this font in 8 and 10pt (cannot find my type ruler anywhere)
I’ve had it for a while and never used it as I never had the time to clean it up.
Hand written note on a bundle says ‘shaded gothic’ but I don’t think that’s it.
I’m trying to find it in the ATF catalog that is at archive.org
Does anyone have any idea what it might be?
Just fyi.. I will be selling this set once I figure out what it is but if you have any interest prior to me posting, I guess you can jump the gun. :)
How might it compare to Copperplate Gothic Shaded? ATF, from 1912 (given ATF series no. 136 later)
This is shown in the 1917 ATF supplementary catalog (pp. 128-128) which is online at archive.org:
http://archive.org/details/supplementarycat00daysrich/
(Curiously - and I don’t quite understand this - the shading in that digitization (at least) of that specimen looks crosshatched rather than “single hatched.” … what is the proper term for “single hatched” in the context of shaded types?)
It’s also shown in the 1923 ATF catalog (pp. 348-349). The best digitization of this is the David Armstrong / Sevanti reprint, at:
http://sevanti-letterpress.com/download/1923-atf-specimen-book-download/
Also shown in McGrew, pp. 106-107.

There are actually a number of ATF catalogs and specimens online, at archive.org and elsewhere. One index into many of them is at:

Thanks David.
Definitely seems to be Copperplate gothic shaded.
I think I’m going to hit them with some air because in one of the photos I took there did seem to be a cross hatching but I dismissed it as dirt. :)
Copperplate Gothic Shaded was indeed “single hatched”.
