Showcard Press patent 1910986 model B3805

I’ve had this bad boy for almost two years now. I haven’t been able to get a good print yet…though I admit, it’s only been the past several months that I’ve been able to create the time for using this. I’m used to printing on an SP 15 or 40 Vandercook. The Showcard was my affordable option for keeping up with printing after graduation.
So far, the problems are probably heavily due to my getting used to hand inking with a brayer and that creates uneven inking. However, this press has no roller adjustment and almost seems to be set slightly too low as is.
As far as getting a better print, I have options, i.e. removing removable thin metal bed plate, packing (have used mostly paper and cardstock) and controlling inking….but I’ve seen posted elsewhere on here that someone had this patent no. Showcard and it had a roller adjustment knob. It seems odd mine doesn’t have that and there is no indication that there should be one on this model. Anyhow, haven’t found anyone else with this model and I could really use some advice. The other option the person with this patent no. had was a lift gate of some kind that will lift the roller when pulling roller cage back to the “start” so as not to offset. Nice!
I want to make this one pull a good print, but so far, no luck. I’ve only been able to print small projects (postcard, cards…) and even then, the printing is terrible and I can’t accept this aesthetic.
Any advice! I’d like to print something along the lines of a full out project soon. I’ve researched a bit on using inking bearers to get even inking….but what to do about this roller height situation?

Oh, here’s the image I’ve found that looks like my press

You can see the cover plate with the Showcard logo on the end of the roller cage. Under that, there is just the one bolt for tightening….so no roller raising or lowering from this.

How’s the condition of the impression cylinder and how are the bearers?
What are you printing with- foundry type? Plates? Cuts? Blocks?

The cylinder seems to be in good shape….there’s a good feel to the rubber and no knicks, dings, or cracks. I’m using mostly lino blocks, some wood type, and mounted metal plates/blocks that are type high. I haven’t done a thorough look lately, sorry to say, at the bearers…is there anything specific I should look for?
