Vandercook Fire

A piece of letterpress history burned last night in Los Angeles. The building that housed Vandercook’s sales office and service facility in the 1960s burned as reported to me from Bill Berkuta, who works nearby in a letterpress shop. The link to the news story is:

and the factory and headquarters building in Chicago, that was taken over by Illinois Tool Works, is now gone, replaced by a Home Depot. Time is slowly obliterating the landmarks of our printing history.
