new roller installation problems

I have a Kelsey 6X10 and just got a new set of rollers – first time in 6 years. The new roller shafts are exactly the same length but the notch where the trucks slot in are further to the ends so that the new trucks are right up against the saddle when fully keyed in. This ceates significant friction between the trucks and the saddle. The rollers AND trucks are now sliding across the rails rather than rolling. I’m wondering if I got the wrong size rollers (the rubber itself is about .5 inch longer) or the notch for the trucks is for a different press. Confused as I have never had this problem before (roller set number 4). Any suggestions?

One possible solution might be to remove the trucks and file or grind down the outer end of the pinched-up key so it is flush with the core surface, thus allowing the trucks to seat closer to the roller covering. But also check to be sure the roller diameter matches the truck diameter - it may be an optical illusion but in your photo the roller looks a bit larger in diameter than the truck. That could be a clue they are the wrong rollers for that press.

Could you move the trucks closer to the roller ? Looking at the pictures it appears the rubber covering is longer?

Good suggestion Bob. Actually Fritz at NAgraphics is going to have the truck grooves milled a bit deeper. If there still isn’t enough play, I’ll file the key a bit. And yes that is an optical illusion!
