Wessel Iron Hand Press tympan/frisket frames

We have recently purchased a Wessel Iron Hand press, 18 x 24 bed, and it is missing the typman and frisket frames.

I was wondering if anyone out there has an extra frame we could buy or has one we could use to make a copy of for our press. Pictures would be great as well since we have no idea how this goes together. if anybody has one that doesn’t want to let us use it as a copy if you could give us the dimensions of it to help us rebuild one that would be great too.

As you can see the previous owner tried to make a frame but was unsuccessful by our accounts.

Any help you guys could give us would be great.

Thanks

Tony

Hello Tony,
Congratulations on the handpress purchase. Tympan & frisket frames were often discarded, but you could have a new set made by Steve Pratt at Pratt Pressworks. He makes them all the time.

If you are looking for images of handpress tympan arrangements you might want to check out the Iron Handpress Flickr group.

And once you have the frame you can learn to recover the tympan from the video on Andy English’s Albion blog.

Daniel, thanks, I can’t wait to get it running.

Thanks for the tips and the links I’ll give them a try and see what I can come up with.
