press board

I’m working at getting the perfect impression with my C&P oldstyle press. I use both lead type and Boxcar plates. I have packed with several different types of papers and I’m just not “there” yet. I keep reading about press board. What is that? Where can I get it and with what type of material can I duplicate its effect?

Generally press board is a highly calandered kind of paperboard, which is nearly uncompressable and has a very even surface and thickness. There are many theories about building the perfect packing including the use of one sheet of the finally used paper as the last sheet beneath the tympan. I think the Heidelberg »Hints for the pressman«-book explains at least something.

Thanks guys……..found it.
