Chandler & Price Pilot Chase Search

Picked up a Chandler & Price Pilot OS this weekend in pretty rough shape, and alas, there’s no chase. Does anybody know where I can find one or if anybody’s making reproductions? Also, both tray arms are busted off, so I’m gonna have to find some spares or figure out a way to refabricate them. Any help, guidance, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

We both were at a Letterpress Sale recently that had quite a number of C&P Pilot chases available for sale. He might have picked up some to resell.

I would go to Boxcarpress.com and get the Pilot manual from there letterpress downloads. Make a list of your missing parts from the parts list. I am not sure what you mean by tray arms.

Chases show up on eBay all the time. But also check with John Barrett at Letterpress Things in Chicopee, Mass

Contact Lou through www.excelsiorpress.org he has these and other parts for the C&P pilot presses.

If you can’t repair or replace the feed table as originally designed, the feed table can simply be a box placed in front of the press. You could use the space under the feeding surface for tool storage or cubby holes for gage pins, etc.

Problem with not having the feed table is the grippers need the feed table arms to hold the gripper spring. Alan at Excelsior has been talking about making feed table arms but hasn’t done it yet. For what it’s worth, I’ve been printing without the grippers and it’s been fine. I’ve also had little problems printing cards and envelopes on larger floor C+P platen presses without grippers, so it’s not the end of the world.

You might want to contact Dave Churchman, in Indianapolis.
I know that he has grippers and other parts.

We have a Peerless Gem Cutter 25” width. If you pick it up, we’ll give it to you.
