Korrex “Stuttgart” Press - Changing Type Height?

Hello all,

I live in Germany and have the possibility to purchase a Korrex “Stuttgart” (similar to a Vandercook) from the Netherlands.

The press is set for Holland type height which is 24.85 mm (0.978 inches). In most of continental Europe we use French type height of 23.56 mm (0.928 inches).

I am unfamiliar with flat bed presses and therefore am unsure if I can adjust the press to accommodate a different type height.

If this is of any help I would be primarily using metal or magnesium dies and photopolymer instead of movable type.

Any help would be appreciated.

Kind regards,
Lisa

Lisa, the difference is Dutch height and German/French height is 1.29 mm. If you can find a sheet of metal to that exact height, you could fit it on the bed and use this press. That shouldn’t be too difficult to sort out. It’s probably the press on the Drukwerk in de Marge website that you’re after.

Paul Groenendaal in Leiden has got a Vandercook with electric inking for sale for 200 euro. Needs some cleaning, but is a good press.

Don’t hurry to buy the press with Dutch height, many machines come up for sale with French height.

Give me a call if you want more information. You’ve got my number.

Thanks Thomas! You are always so helpful. Glad you are on this side of the big pond.

The reason I am so fascinated with the Korrex “Stuttgart” is that it is the size of a tall coffee table and so would fit in my currently constrained work space.

Plus Sabrina Sundermann from small caps here in Berlin, Germany just bought one off of ebay. I was there when she inspected it before bidding and I think I fell in love with the tiny press.

Talk soon!

Lisa
