improved golding pearl 11 ink plate not rotating properly

my ink plate is not rotating correctly when the press cycles. the little rotating lever on the press shaft and engages when the press cycles is barely coming into contact with the groves on the back of the ink plate. it’s loose yes, but their is no way to tighten it. it has a pin in a shaft that hold it into position and then as the press cycles, it should come into to contact with the groves but it basically is a hair off and the groves don’t touch it. so it drifts over or past it so the plate does rotate except once every 6 times the press cycles.

any ideas? thank you!

Hi Steph,

First make sure that your ink disk is seated all the way. If there is any foreign material keeping it from seating all the way, it will be higher than it is supposed to be and could prevent proper contact with the ink disk pawl. Next look at the pin that holds the pawl. If it is bent down at all, it could also prevent it from coming in contact with the tabs on the bottom of the ink plate. Next make sure the pawl is free to move up and down and not binding. If none of the aforementioned seems to be the problem, the end of the pawl may be worn and you may have to replace it or add something to the end of it to give it a little more length so it engages with the back of the ink disk reliably.

all above seems fine… I am not sure what to do. It’s just not readily coming in contact with the plate for anyone reason.
some times it cycles 2 times before it catches, sometimes it’s 3 times.

Steph,

Have you tried using a thick rubber-band to help push up the pin (force it to touch the grooves). Kind of clunky but it helps the disk/plate to spin.

Although I have not tried it, you could superglue (or weld) a small piece of metal to extend the length of the pin so that it touches the grooves of the plate.
