Nebiolo made a slug-casting machine similar to the Ludlow Typograph, using hand set mats.

They are matrices for a ludlow typecaster.

The “hammer” referred to in the ebay ad has a marking of Nebiolo and is a European height roller gauge. There is no indication of the matrices being Nebiolo as they appear to be of the Ludlow Tempo family.

The height indicated on the gauge is 23,32mm which is more likely to be an italian height. The standard European height is 23,56mm. I understood from talking to M Gerstenberg from Stempel, that several different heights where quite common in Italy. He casts to at least five different heights!
