I am making a font for a person from Montreal and I am looking for font schemes for French (and Spanish too) that would be like the tables that show how many of each character is included in the font. Specifically the font schemes for lead type fonts.
Any clues?
Hi Bill,
I don’t have any actual experience with French fonts, but the Wikipedia article on “letter frequency” has a nice chart showing the distribution of letters for various languages.
When I order type, I order fonts plus lines of individual sorts. To ascertain which sort lines I need, I prepare tables and charts comparing the letter distribution in the fonts with the distribution I will need. Here’s an example.
Since you’re casting an order for a specific client, perhaps you can get the client to work with you on determining exactly what is needed.
