Paper cutter reccommendations?

I have my eye on this machine: Perfect G17 Pro

Does anyone have any experience with this model or company?
Any suggestions on others I should be looking at?

What are you going to use it for? Looks to me as a cutter that is great for short press run less than 200 copies. I would NOT cut more than a few sheets at a time on this type of cutter. The information says it will do a stack, I say NO!

Videos show it cutting the yellow phone books pretty easily. Any reason not to believe it?

Any other suggestions?

I’m sure it would be fine to cut 5-10 sheets at full blade length.

I don’t doubt it can cut through a phone book, but the question is, can it cut through the phone book cleanly? Are all the sheets cut to the same length, or is there distortion from clamp and cut pressure? etc etc.

Even on a 30” lever cutter it’s hard to make a 17” cut full throat. Cutters are like presses, expect to cut less than capacity the same way you can’t print a full chase.

If you’re certain blades are sharpenable I’m sure it will work, no experience with it, though.

I’ve used cutters similar to this (perhaps even the same cutter branded for a different reseller) and they’re fine. However you have to pay close attention as they often are out of square and are not very well built. You can easily end up ruining a whole stack of printed pieces if you’re not careful.

It didn’t take long before I decided to replace the one I had with an older Challenge paper cutter.

I guess you get what you pay for.

Hope this helps,
Brad.

I’d love to know what some other good options are. I certainly don’t want to sacrifice quality too much, but at the same time I can’t really afford anything more than this one costs.

I’ve got to agree with Brad. I’ve been through it with a small tabletop cutter. After ruining the second job because of clamp pressure (or lack of it), I traded it in for a larger, much older 22.5” Paragon, and I’m perfectly happy with the older cutter. And the oldie is worth more now than what I paid for it back then. Leave the new toys for scrapbookers, and church bulletins!! Look for a Challenge, C&P, Golding, Advance, it’ll be worth the wait. Good Luck!

had a lot of cutters over the years, floor model lever cutters are pretty good, but i looked for a long time for a challenge 30” cutter, best thing i ever got, can’t say enough good about the challenge. Dick G.

1/3 the price and probably a much better cutter — but it may not be near you. Might be worth a trip, though.

Large cutters are out there at good prices; I picked up a 30” C&P for $50 just recently on ebay.

These are juuunnnk. I bought one of these hoping I could use it for little stuff, but it was just a PITA to use. The only thing it was useful for was doing the final trim on booklets, one at a time.

Pretty much anything that’s not a Challenge with hydraulic clamp and cut is going to be disappointing.
