Paper Cutting

Hello all, the newbie of the newbies is back….

I have been wondering about paper cutting. I don’t have a press paper cutter like the one I have seen recently someone was asking if he should buy…..I don’t plan on getting one for space reasons. However, I am wondering

Can one cut a stack of paper to size with a power saw and the proper blade (whatever that may be) neatly?

I have a power chop/miter saw in my woodshop and wondered if that would work to cut a 2 inch or so stack of paper evenly and nice? Anyone do that??? Thanks!!!

Nope

Don’t even think about trying it — very messy and dangerous, and your paper won’t be worth scrap after.

Thanks for the response! Anyone have an alternative to an old style paper cutter, besides cutting each sheet individually on a rotary trimmer? Thanks!

It’s usually recommended that you develop a relationship with a shop near you who has a cutter. You can take your jobs there and usually pay little to nothing to have small jobs cut.

well i never thought of it but did a little ebaying and found some desktop size dedicated trimmers cutting up to 400 pcs of paper at a time for about 200…not bad if they are any good.

Not worth it. Honestly - the $60 guillotines will cut the same as the $200 (I’ve tried them before - not as great as you’d hope) It’s nice to have a cheap cutter around for small jobs, but the unanimous opinion of creating a relationship with a local print shop has absolutely saved my butt this wedding season.

Just for the record it is hard to be professional without decent equipment. Yours or someone else’s. It often seems like people try to invest the minimum amount into a ‘hobby’ and then cannot understand why it doesn’t stack up against someone that has put years and decent money into setting up a professional shop.
