The “Durometer” or hardness of most typewriter platens is too high for most letterpress roller applications. You generally want a softer material for good ink transfer.
I have used litho rollers in one press which just happened to require the same size roller as I had in a offset litho press that was being junked, but the rollers also were just a bit hard for good inking of plates. I got by for quite some time with those rollers, though.

Break down and get real rollers, it might cost a little but you’ll be happier with new rollers.
