Ostrander Handpress
I just acquired an Ostrander-Seymour 15” x 20” hand press and am wondering if anyone out there has one like it? There are issues in fine-tuning the impression that are not necessarily covered by Allen or Rummonds, and I’d appreciate any advice as well as tips from experience in using the press. This is the model that probably dates to the 1890s, as it still uses the leather straps on the rounce. Says “Extra Heavy” on the head piece.
I might be able to help you. I maintain a database of hand presses in North America, and among the more than 1150 recorded presses there are quite a few O-S presses. I would like to check to see if this press is already recorded; I owned one quite a few years ago as well. I would appreciate it if you can write me directly through BP with information about who you got the press from. I can also work with you on the adjustments. Where are you located?
