12 x 18 Chandler and Price
I recently purchased this press and it is in excellent condition. I’m so excited. It has everything except a foot treadle and motor. Where would I be able to find these parts? Thanks in advance for your help!

I’m not so sure they made treadles for the 12x18 if they did they did not make many.
heren makes treadles for the 8x12 and the 10x15

I suspect it would be incredibly tiring to trestle a press this large for any amount of time.
If the press has an offet in the flywheel shaft, you can build a treadle out of metal or wood. Though treadling this press is a bunch of work; plus it takes 6 revolutions of the flywheel for one impression compared to 4 for the 8x12.
I have an 8x12 with a treadle, so don’t know too much about motors. The 12x18 at Printer’s Hall in Mt. Pleasant, IA has a motor too small to start the press up, so it requires a push to start, thereafter the undersize motor works just fine to keep it running.
Ok. That makes sense. I’m just learning as this is my first C&P. So, you are suggesting I should just get a motor versus getting a foot treadle, @rmiller021? Thank you!
Arie, do you know what type of motor the one at Printer’s Hall has? Sorry…still learning. Thank you!
Sarah,
Where are you located?
You’ll want a 1/2 to 3/4 horsepower motor. I would recommend a motor and variable frequency drive (VFD) kit. This will give you great control over the speed of the press while you learn to hand feed.
Be safe.
Let me know if you have any questions.
All the best,
Brad.
Grainger should be able to provide a good fit for that press. You will also need the belt.
