UK - Kent - another letterpress printer closing

I went to Swanley Press today and they are selling everything off, type, cases, a lovely Heidelberg and a handfeed Gietz A3, paper, ink, furniture the lot. The type is cheap and they are giving the cases away with it.
I was too late to pick up the wooden type.
If interested call 01322 660582, address Old Forge Yard, Swanley Village BR8 7NF

Richard most of the cranes are attached to huge trucks but even the bodge artists i use charge me £150 plus the mileage and i have to rope up for them or supply the lift eye which unfortunately grew legs the week before christmas !
You are a long way up country for this to be in the sensible bracket but you must not pay that sort of money for an A4 machine !!! I have never paid more than £300 for a small one ,the 13x18 is a good buy at £2500 but the little uns usually are cheap .
The machines of the late 60s and 70s with the inker locks are only an advantage if you pissed off with changing between cutting and creasing and print , that is about all thats in it ,oh and you can get the chase out without inking the bottom edge of it ! The dis advantage is the minimum speed of them is much faster than the old ones so if you have a problem job it becomes a real pain ,although you would change from the standard motor so you may be ok .

,

Indeed the cleaning is easier because you dont get the splatter on your packing when you have over soaked the rollers during wash up . Everyone i know hates the ink on the bottom of the chase , somehow you always manage to put your wrists in it !! The speed would be no real prob if you dont use the standard three phase motor fitted on them ,if you are putting a domestic motor on you can reduce the pulley size which gives you the reduction in speed , I have mine reduced down that slow speed is a crawl and the smaller pulley takes the grunt out of the motor straining to turn the fly wheel on start up .

Oh yes i use a vari speed electric motor that tend to whip up in speed when not under load thus the extra small pulley on the drive too .

I wash the lot roughly all in print mode dry the rollers back as much as poss then take the forme rollers out clean them then form out and clean that then the press itself . i find doing it in that order makes me less likely to have to clean the type days later all dried on !!

Ooh this isn’t far from me what else do they have?

I feel like a Vulture writing that, but out of the ashes….etc.

Peter, I just arrived back in London, I’ll be in touch very soon.

No problem young man your parts are waiting for collection at your convenience , they make little difference in the cluttered scheme of things !!! If you end up in swanley i am looking for some script in 18-24pt range if you should happen upon it Max £150.00 thats generous enough i think ,i did mention a run up to swanley to my mate will try to contact them in the morning but i bet its a nine to five mon-fri number !

Hi - any price on the Geitz G3. I’m interested but the shipping will be killer. Ke Francis

The Geitz is £350. They turned it over for me, looked really lovely as the platen rolled in. If only I had ……
The type is £1 a kilo, no charge for the cases.
