The future of printing is here?

I was watching some videos of the up coming Graph Expo in Chicago, the annual printing industry show, and this one came up:

I think printing, or whatever it is called now, has left me in the dust. I feel a lot more comfortable with a composing stick in my hand rather that dealing with a Galatic battleship looking electronic press manned by a smart ass attitude press operator.I grew up in HP land and my brother spent most of his working life there as an engineer, but if this is what it is all coming to, I’ll just hole up in my letterpress shop until my life-time warranty runs out.

I am getting this set up for my Intertype and V50 and 8x12 right now!

I know with these glasses and the Briarpress community my days of fighting problems will be gone!

Thank you HP.

Looking at the video, it was interesting to see how far they have gotten, even since I retired in 2010. It looked like that web was going maybe 200 ft/minute. However, if you compare that performance to modern offset web publication presses which can now probably run at 2000+ ft/min, they aren’t going to be displacing conventional presses for long runs anytime soon.

When I print on the 1880 vintage 7 X 11 treadle press at Westfield Heritage Village (near Cambridge, Ontario), where I volunteer, people often remark on how clear and sharp the print is (from type, with kiss impression). I think they have gotten used to their mediocre inkjet printer quality, and when they see letterpress print quality, it is a revelation to them.

I love these videos, the people act as they are GODs!

Fritz, DONT be so defeatist lets have a little more P.M.A. = Positive mental attitude OR work on the maxim of **In the land of the blind, The one eyed man is king**
Look up the concept,s as contained in the Book, *EARTH ABIDES* or the film *The World, The flesh and the Devil* both of Yankee origin.
Self contained Letterpress Printers,s with ALL the raw materials and *A* to *Z* of info may yet become the One Eyed King.. Hang in there and Good Luck.

I would venture to say… they left out one thing. The ink isn’t moisture or water proof.

The ink isn’t, but when coated with the inline UV coater that HP offers, the sheet is.
