PETER LUCKHURST

very sadly, about 10 minutes ago, I was informed of Peter’s passing in hospital after an illness lasting these last few weeks that proved inoperable. The last time we spoke a few days ago he wanted to feel optimistic, didn’t want to make a fuss of his condition and indeed was making plans to deal with living with his illness to benefit others. His such extensive knowledge particularly of Heidelbergs, his enthusiasm for assisting people and love of printing, volunteering at Amberley Muse, his friendship and printers banter will be very sorely missed,he was only in his middle years. Peter, bless you, God keep you safe, we will miss you so much.

I never met the man but I felt I knew him for a long time, his passion for helping people will be truly missed, he seemed to enjoy posting on this site, he has helped me many times, I will truly miss him, may God bless him and his family in this tough time. ps, Peter, when I get to Heaven I hope we will print a few things together. Dick Goodwin.

RIP Peter Lockhurst

I have been the recipient of help many times by Peter replying directly to one of my posts, or just reviewing many of his other posts. I for one will miss him and his knowledge. All my best to his friends and family.

Jonathan,
Thanks for passing on this information, as sorry as we all are to hear it. Do you have any information on a service or a contact for flowers, etc.?

Dan

So sorry to hear it. May God bless and keep Peter’s soul.

Very sad. A man of high achievement and a great help in our letterpress world.

Re Peter, Daniel and others already posted, and more to come, I am sure, Thank you on behalf of His immediate family especially his Sister, our mutual buddy with whom Peter lodged, was forbidden to tell His Sister of His troubles, She was only informed a few hours before his passing, by the Hospital authorities, His sister and immediate family, from 60 miles away were at his bedside just in time. He Peter, (his Buudy) and I go back a long long way, That was the nature of the Man , I.E. Do not worry the family!
As a result of the speed of his deterioation, many chapters are still unfinished, He will eventually be joining his parents and his brother, (who also departed too early) but red tape may take some time. Jonathan is, as seen giving His Sister & family excellent support, for which she is grateful (but not a B.P. contributor) I relayed the current crop of B.P. posts to date, yesterday (Sat) for which She was grateful and surprised, when we have visited, the talk was virtually never about print, His sister was unaware of his stature and standing in the letterpress community.
Going back15 yrs We had a *spat* on an almost weekly basis, but when the chips were down, he was the one you would choose to stand back to back with.
For the time being, regards to all on B.P. and on behalf of Peters family, especially his Sister, heartfelt Thanks..
Mick.

Thank you for the information and update, Mick. I’m in Canada so not very close, unfortunately, but if there’s anything I can do, please let me know. Kindest regards, Geoff

Sad to hear this news, rest in peace Peter.

we -friends of Peter who missed him very much at Amberley on Sunday- are very appreciative of everyone’s comisserations, we will continue to pass them onto the the family, so they know he had international friends, thank you. No news yet of funeral arrangements but will keep in touch, thank you.

I’m really sad to have heard this news. Peter was such a help to me and someone I admired.
I hope he rests in peace and am sending best wishes to his family and friends too.

Devastating news….. Peter was a great asset to the Heidelberg and letterpress community. The knowledge pool within was so deep. I corresponded with him off this forum often and will miss his wisdom and wit.

RIP Peter…. and deepest sympathy to your family and friends.

I too would like know of final arrangements.

I only knew Peter through these pages. What a knowledge the man had. Also we had a lot in common through motorcycles & especially speedway. Sadly missed. Make the most of our time. John

hi folks—funeral service is Wed 18th June 10 am , Woodvale Crematorium Brighton, Sussex Uk……Barry , Peter’s mate, that Peter’s preference was not for flowers or anything similar—-I haven’t had a reply yet from his sister about any donations to worthy causes or any other possibilities/preferences etc , of course we will pass on any further commiserations, thank you to everyone.

Fellow printers:just spoken to Peter’s sister Tracy-apparently Peter made very regular direct debits to the International Red Cross, so the suggestion is that should any one wish to donate something , that would be appropiate, otherwise everyone’s wishes and thoughts for the family in their bereavement are of course most welcome, and we thank you again.

At the crematorium service to day I read out your condolences, the family were very appreciative, thank you. Several friends and family are indeed going to check out Peter’s posts on this website so hopefully the link above can stay active for a couple more weeks. Printers and family then had an opportunity to reminisce at a buffet nearby.

Have only just read about this sad news.

Peter was such a generous fella. He’d happily phone and email to help, going out of his way without being asked.

Nice to know his family know how fondly everyone here though of him.

RIP Peter

Peters ashes were scattered on the seashore a couple of weeks ago. The family once again asks me on their behalf to say thank you all for your condolences. Girl with a kluge-apparently you sent yours to monotype mick and he tried to forward it to me-may I ask if you send them to me as I’m printing them all out to send to the family, plus more photos I posted of when Peter was a volunteer at Amberley museum-apparently family is keeping his facebook page open as a memorial to him.
